S9E12 | Worried about starting a membership

Episode Description:

For those worried about starting a membership because of constraints on time, money, or consistency, Sandra outlines why having a membership isn’t as difficult as you think, and shares some of the key benefits of starting a membership.

Show notes

“When people say they don’t have time to run a membership? Where else are you going to be spending your time?”

I’ve had people tell me that they don’t want a membership because they don’t have the time, don’t have the money, don’t feel consistent enough or don’t want to worry about retention. If this is you, there’s a few things I want you to consider.

When people say they don’t have time to run a membership, sometimes you have the time, but it’s just not being used effectively.

Let’s talk more about the value of a membership. What I love the most about membership is you can sell once and have that person in your membership for years. I have some members onboard who joined me when I opened my membership in 2019.

When someone joins your membership they’re a part of the community, and you get the opportunity to support them and give them things that make their lives easier.

Membership also allows you to have recurring revenue, so you can have a better idea of what you’re bringing in each month. It also doesn’t take a lot of money to start a membership. I started my Engaged Groups Membership by posting in my Facebook group, asking who would want to be part of my membership, and what sort of content they would like to get from me.

You also don’t have to constantly provide content for a membership, people are mostly here for the community. They want the space to talk about their business, or careers, or whatever topic your membership is about.

Consistency with content is easily taken care of. Once you know you have a deadline, and paying clients waiting for you to create content, you’re going to get it done because you’re a reliable, ethical person with integrity.

You can also create content ahead of time, which is a huge time-saver. For my Engaged Groups Membership I create engaging posts for everyone’s group, and I’ll create months of it at a time.

If you want even more support with planning out membership content, be sure to check out my Emerald Elite Membership, which is our membership for membership owners. We’re creating 6 months’ worth of content that will be a whole weight lifted off of your shoulders.

I hope this pep talk on membership has lit you up and encouraged you to reconsider starting a membership.
